“colour” or “ladies, show your feet” ;)
About 4 years ago I gave a “Streichpsalter” including an embroidered bag, which I especially made for this psaltery, to Arnulf, a member of my shire Ad Flumen Caerulum and our current seneschal, because some of his music instruments (including a psaltery) were stolen while he was working at a concert event.
At this time I wasn’t practising my psaltery very often and I knew that it would cost him enough money to replace the other stolen instruments therefore I gave him the psaltery including the bag and just requested a pair of 14th century shoes… You can see the bag on the pictures above and the one on the left side
…and finally, I got my shoes today and I really love them – Thanks, Arnulf
:*
…and yes, the shoes are purple – purple with a pink border!
…and I think they look great with my red 14th century stockings…
colour rulezzz!
…and now I just need some colourful 14th century dresses…
…and “bling bling”
…and the shoes were made by
Ledermanufaktur Thomas Posenanski
6th Scroll – AoA (blank)
I used Schreibtinte / Writing ink – Eisen-Gallus-Tinte “Scabiosa” (Rohrer & Klinger, Leipzig-Co.) for this scroll and again I tried to copy a small part from a Dürer picture
5th Scroll – AoA (blank)
Yesterday I finished another AoA scroll blank (size A5) – unfortunately there is not much place left for the year and the event name, but hopefully that won’t matter… I think my Bastarda hand is getting better with each scroll and I love the “A” letter initial that I tried for this scroll blank…
Instead of Nan-King Encre de Chine – intense indian ink (Lefrac & Bourgeois) or the Schreibtinte / Writing ink – Eisen-Gallus-Tinte “Salix” (Rohrer & Klinger, Leipzig-Co.), that I used for the 4th scroll, I used Schreibtinte / Writing ink – Eisen-Gallus-Tinte “Scabiosa” (Rohrer & Klinger, Leipzig-Co.) for this scroll and I am very pleased with the color
gorgeous new book about “Gotik Art” :)
Some time ago I visited a bookshop in the first district here in Vienna and found a gorgeous book in the antiquarian part of the bookshop in the cellar…
…after comparing the price online I decided to order a copy at Amazon.de and I still love it!!!

…interested into this book but you can’t read/understand German? Please don’t worry – there are plenty beautiful pics in this book and if you really want to understand some of the text you can consult http://dict.leo.org/ or http://woerterbuch.reverso.net/ or just ask one of the SCA-members living in Austria or Germany who can translate it for you ![]()
…such a lovely book! …such great pics! …get the book if you can get it for a reasonable price
4th Scroll – AoA (blank)
Today I finished another AoA scroll blank (size A5).
Normally I use black Nan-King Encre de Chine – intense indian ink (Lefrac & Bourgeois) but today I tried to work with Schreibtinte / Writing ink – Eisen-Gallus-Tinte “Salix” (Rohrer & Klinger, Leipzig-Co.)
…and again I tried to copy a small part from a Dürer picture for the bottom
3rd Scroll – AoA (blank)
Recently I saw a gorgeous scroll done by my friend Melisende from Insulae Draconis (England) and decided that I really should practise my Bastarda hand – and how could I practise a hand better than doing another scroll…
…and here is the result – my 3rd scroll – this time again an AoA (Award of Arms) scroll

…this here was my workplace for this project – normally this is our dining table – I used my embroidery basket to get an inclination of about 30° which makes writing for me much easier than if my drawing plate would lay flat on the table…
I love Melisendes scrolls and especially the scroll she made for Gyles catched my eye.
After the calligraphy was done I decided to add something at the bottom of my scroll – therefore I took a look in one of my books about the work of Dürer and found this nice book,… and decided to copy it as good as possible
…and this is the result – I hope you like it ![]()
I admit that I had to face some problems and that I made some mistakes while I was writing down the text, but with the help of a very sharp blade – I think I got it from Mistress Bridget when I started with calligraphy and illumination and it is one of the most useful gifts I ever got for calligraphy
– I got rid of the mistakes and now I am quite pleased with the result

…Schönbrunn :)
The weather was quite warm and sunny today and therefore we decided to go for a walk in the garden of the ‘Schloß Schönbrunn’.
The wind was rather cold but we very enjoyed the sun and the fresh air
…and again I took some photos…
Valentine’s Day :)
…btw. my Valentine’s Day was great – we took a walk through the snow-covered ‘Schönbrunn’ and the “Tiergarten Schönbrunn / Vienna Zoo” and I took some nice pictures
…and afterwards we had our Valentine’s dinner at the Brandauer’s Schloßbräu and we had two ‘Wiener Schnitzel’ – to bad that they moved the non-smoking area to another section with more tables but with less ambience
…and my Valentin’s Day presents are:
- 2 additional years Flickr
- ‘TAK V BOWES DEPARTED – A 15th Century Braiding Manual Examinded’
Thank you sweety!
…and also a big thank you to my friend Tristan who pointed me to this great booklet in his posting ‘Blue, white & gold purse finished!’ – if you don’t know his blog and work by now you should really visit his blog “Taschen”!
new books… :)
I love second hand bookshops and recently I visited one and found following books:
“Mary Thomas’s – DICTIONARY OF EMBROIDERY STITCHES”
I really love this new book – I own and know many dictionaries of embroidery stitches by now but I think this new one has a good chance to become my favourite one ![]()
The book contains drawings of the different techniques that are rather easy to understand and also photos of lovely samplers worked in different stitches… I especially love the explanation of the Picot-Bullion, Picot-Buttonhole, Picot-Loop, Picot-Ring and Picot-Woven…
“Handarbeiten wie zu Großmutters Zeiten – Nachdruck von 1913″
This book is a reprint of a book from 1913 and a really great book and it covers following chapters:
Das Häkeln, Das Stricken, Die Knüpfarbeit, Die Filet- oder Netzarbeit, Die Frivolitätenarbeit (Occhi-Technik), Die Klöppelarbeit, …, Die Kreuzstichstickerei, Das Übertragen der Muster, Die Weißstickerei (zb: einfache Weißstickerei, Lochstickerei, Richelieustickerei), Die künstlerische Weißstickerei, Die Durchbrucharbeit, Die Nähspitze, Die Tüllspitze, Die Bändchenspitze, Die Plattstickerei, Die orientalische Buntstickerei, Die Tamburierarbeit, Die orientalische Geflechtstickerei, Die Goldstickerei, Die Aufnäharbeit, …
Size A5, 460 pages – just b/w pictures and this lovely old letters – a very nice and useful book for every needlework-book collection ![]()
…and you can get it at Amazon for about 1€
…and I also found two books about costume and fashion and it’s history and I am very looking forward to reading them:
“Vom Lendenschurz zum Minirock. Kleidung, Mode, Schmuck.”
“Das große Bilderlexikon der Mode. Vom Altertum zur Gegenwart.”
…and last but not least I found this really big book for 1,50 € and thought that I should rescue it and take it home (yeah, I love books with many pictures) :
“Larousse Encyclopaedia of Renaissance and Baroque Art”
books… I am reading at the moment…
…what am I reading in my spare time?
…since last years summer I am reading “Neil Gaiman – Fragile Things” and I have to admit that I still haven’t finished reading it *lol* but I made it to page 387 and I think it’s a great way to practise my English – my favourite story till now is ‘October in the Chair’ – I am pretty sure that I will finish the book before next summer starts
…and I recently decided to learn more about several centuries and therefore started to read “Jahrhunderte der Kunst: Das 14. Jahrhundert. Künstler, Bewegungen, Techniken, Auftraggeber, Orte” – a very nice book about the 14th century with many beautiful pictures and brief but I think also very good descritpions of many aspects of this century (architecture, fabrics, embroidery, city, furniture,…) – in my opinion a great basic overview of the 14th century
Update Guild Project – Drachenwald Coat of Arms :)
Great news! Chrisi, a me
mber of my shire Ad Flumen Caerulum, who is no Guild member and normally doesn’t embroider, made the very first patch for the Drachenwald Coat of Arms project
I love it! It’s lovely!
If you want to know if someone already volunteered to make a patch for your shire/canton/stronghold/… you can find a list of all participants here:

What I recently found… book ‘Enzyklopädie der Weltkunst. Das hohe Mittelalter’ :)
I recently found a small book with the name
“Enzyklopädie der Weltkunst. Das hohe Mittelalter.”
and got it for 1€ at an ‘Altwarentandler’ (a small second hand dealer) here in Vienna and I am very happy because it mainly covers the 11th and 12th century and even if it’s rather small – just A5 – it contains many wonderful pictures – for example:
- page 22 – b/w – Christus als Weltenherrscher von der Kirche Saint-Sernin in Toulouse. Flachrelief aus Marmor. Ende 11. Jahrhundert. Höhe 1,31m, Breite 65cm.
- page 24 – b/w – Kapitell einer Doppelsäule des Klosters Saint-Etienne in Toulouse. Stein. Etwa Mitte 12. Jahrhundert. Höhe 32cm, Breite 56cm. Toulouse, Musee des Augustins.

- page 68 – color – Seelenwägung. Kapitell aus der Kirche Saint-Pierre in Chauvigny (Vienne). 1. Hälfte des 12. Jahrhunderts.

… just to name a few – my personal favourite:
